Admissions Policy
St. Thomas More Academy is a non-profit independent, private school teaching a traditional catholic curriculum, It is
incorporated under the laws of the state of Maryland, recognized by the IRS as a 501(c)3 organization, certified by the state of Maryland with membership in NAPCIS (National Association of Private Catholic and Independent Schools). The Academy enrolls students in grades Pre-Kindergarten through Eight. While maintaining independence as a private entity, St. Thomas More Academy recognizes and respects the proper jurisdiction of the local bishop for the Archdiocese of Baltimore in matters relevant to instruction in the doctrines and beliefs of the Catholic Church.
All faiths are welcome to inquire. Preference is given to Catholic families when considering space available. When families of other faiths are accepted, they must support the policies of St. Thomas More Academy, including the policy that their children will receive religious instruction in the Catholic Faith, attend Mass and take part in the religious devotions and activities of the Academy.
Class size does not exceed 15:2 in PreK, 20:2 in Kindergarten, and 20:1 in grades 1 through 8.
The Application Process
A student entering PreK must be four (4) years old on or before September 1st.
A student entering Kindergarten must be five (5) years old on or before September 1st.
The following must be submitted for each student applying to the Academy:
• Completed Application for Admission, signed by parent(s)/guardian(s)
• $75 non-refundable application fee
• Birth certificate (copy is accepted)
• Baptismal certificate (if Catholic)
• A copy of the applicant’s most recent report card (if applying to grades 1 – 8)
• A copy of the applicant’s recent standardized test scores
In addition, a parent interview is required for all candidates. Student interviews are required at the request of the Academy and for all students applying to grades 6-8.
Placement for new students is offered to those who have:
• provided a complete Application for Admission (as outlined above)
• successfully completed the previous year’s schooling (if applying to grades 1-8)
• successfully completed the Academy’s placement exam (for those applying to grades K-8)
Upon acceptance to the Academy, an enrollment contract is due within 10 days of receipt to guarantee placement for the student(s). The enrollment contract package must include:
• A $350 non-refundable book and resource fee, per child, for those entering grades K – 8. This is due in full by June 1.
• A $150 non-refundable program fee, per child, for those entering PreK, due in full by June 1.
Once the enrollment contract is signed and the fees paid, the student is officially enrolled. No portion of fees is refundable. The obligation to pay tuition and fees for the full academic school year is unconditional, and no portion of tuition or fees, paid or outstanding will be refunded or canceled.
Enrollment is ongoing until all classes are full and is not limited to those of the Catholic faith.
Nondiscrimination Statement
St. Thomas More academy admits students of any race, color and national or ethnic origin to all the rights, privileges, programs and activities generally accorded or made available to students at the school. It does not discriminate on the basis of race, color and national or ethnic origin in the administration of its educational policies and athletic or other school administered programs.
However, St. Thomas More Academy does not have the personnel or the facilities to address the needs of children with emotional or behavioral problems or learning disabilities that require special programs or services.
